Today is not a planned Lunch Bunch function, but my motorcycle riding friend, Manjo is staying on the Peninsula for a few days. So we are meeting for lunch about half way in Livermore, CA
I am driving but decide to take the Old Lincoln Highway, US Hwy 50 over the Old Altamont Pass Road.

The pavement is better now than when it was THE Highway from Stockton to San Francisco

You can just see the new interstate I-580 on pillars in the center of the photo

Going under the Union Pacific RR Bridge

We were to meet at Piccola Casa at 11:40am but both Manjo and I are early so we have a few minute wait until they open at 11:30am.
Located in a nondescript strip mall in Springtown, really and not Livermore proper

Some of the interior there is just a bit more to the left of this photo

Both Manjo and I are having the Grilled Vegetable Sandwich. It is on toasted Focaccia with eggplant, peppers, squash, avocado, sundried tomato pesto and mozzarella. Manjo also has the soup which today is a puree of eggplant and tomato soup. I am having the mixed green salad.

My plate with the top of the bread opened

The same plate but this time with the bottom of the bread open

The sandwiches were delicious and the soup was great, too. Manjo gave me a spoonful.
All in all a great little out of the way restaurant far from the more crowded Downtown Livermore or Wine Country scenes.

At lunch one topic was the levee roads of the California Delta. I grew up with them but I guess they are pretty unique at least in this country.

So I decide to take a real back road back home and take a couple of photos from around Lower Jones Tract which had been flooded from mid-2004 to mid-2005.

Now these are not the motorcycle roads that we ride along the Sacramento River Delta about 20 miles north of here.
Note the land is way below the level of the water
